A Fitness Journey for Adults Over 40

Fitness isn’t just for the young… it’s a lifelong journey that can be started at any age.

My team and I work with adults over 40 who are busy in their careers and have family responsibilities. To say their life is busy is an understatement. For most, their health and wellness have been put to the sideline because of their willingness to work hard for others.

They’re selfless…but they’re starting to realize they need to take their health seriously.

In this blog series, I’ll take you through the 4 key stages of fitness after 40 and I’ll share tips to help you improve your health along the way. Whether you’re new to fitness or looking to reignite your motivation, these stages will guide you toward becoming the strongest, healthiest version of yourself.

Stage 1: The Decision

This is, without a doubt, the most crucial…the decision to commit to a healthier you. This isn’t about making a temporary change. It’s about deciding to prioritize your health and fitness as a lifestyle.

It’s more than just going to a gym to do workouts here and there. It’s a mindset that says, “I’m in this no matter what. It’ll be difficult, but I’m going to commit.”

For most, the reality of health comes in the form of chronic pain, feeling out of shape and tired, or maybe a daily dislike of how your body looks. For me, it was overcoming years of physical weakness and pain…it finally pushed me to make a change.

Whether you want to feel stronger, reduce stress, or improve mobility, your reason for committing needs to be something so deep that it becomes a non-negotiable for you. Every time you feel like quitting (and there will be multiple times), your “why” will be the anchor to all things moving forward.

Stay Tuned for the Next Stages

Stage 1 is all about setting the foundation for your fitness lifestyle. This cannot be taken lightly.

And here’s a pro-tip…your “why” doesn’t have to be perfect…it just has to mean something to you. Sometimes your “why” needs to nurtured and molded…this takes time.

Remember, it’s never too late to start. Whether you’re in your 40s, 50’s, or beyond, your fitness is about improving your quality of life. By taking the first step and making the decision to live a different, more profound lifestyle, you’ll soon feel something you’ll never want to let go of again.
