There’s something powerful about consistency. It’s about showing up, time and time again, even when the going gets tough. There’s something deeply rewarding in hunkering down, fully focusing on the plan, and sticking to it.
You know it’s not going to be easy, but you do it anyway.
I recently heard a conversation between Simon Sinek and Melissa Robins where they discussed Nike’s iconic slogan and how they nailed it. The phrase “Just Do It” is simple, yet profound. But here’s a little twist: the most important word in that slogan isn’t “Do”—it’s “Just.”
At first glance, “Do” might seem like the word that carries the most weight, but in reality, it’s “Just” that really speaks to us. It’s softer. It recognizes that what we’re facing is hard. It doesn’t demand perfection or force action— it simply says, “You just have to do it.”
If Nike’s slogan were just “Do It,” it would come across as too aggressive, too demanding. “Do it!” might make you want to push back, to resist. But when it’s “Just do it,” it feels like a gentle nudge—a quiet encouragement to keep going.
That’s the beauty of consistency.
A perfect example of this is one of our members. He made an agreement with me—and more importantly, with himself—that he was going to lose 50 pounds in 11 months. It wasn’t going to be quick. It wasn’t going to be easy. But he stuck with it. Through the ups and downs, he stayed consistent.
And guess what? He hit his goal. He lost 51.4 pounds—16 days ahead of schedule. That’s the magic of staying the course, no matter how tough it gets. It’s not about grand gestures or instant results. It’s about showing up consistently, day in and day out.
What stands out even more than his achievement, though, is his attitude. Through it all, he kept a positive mindset. He didn’t let setbacks get to him. He kept pushing forward, and he did it with a great attitude.
This is a testament to what happens when you stay consistent, even when it’s hard. The journey is long, but the rewards are worth it.
