Fitness for Women in Irvine, CA: Why the Fundamentals Always Win

This past week I had the opportunity to speak to a group of 62 women in Irvine, CA.

All of these women are a part of the  National League of Young Men. If you’re not familiar with them, they’re an organization that gathers young men so they can help develop them into confident and responsible leaders in society.

All with their mothers’ support alongside them.

Teaching these young men to be good, kind, responsible young men with life skills…so great.

The more research I did on this organization and the families they serve, I realized that they all have a connection with the women we serve at Thrive.

Same age group.
Same family style.
Most likely same struggles.

The mothers are selfless.
They probably sacrifice a lot for their families…driving their kids to and from school, to sports practice…all while taking charge of their career and their homes.

While they bend over backwards for their families and career, they most likely put their own fitness aside. The last time they worked out consistently was probably in high school or college…20 some years ago.

Now fitness scares them, makes them unsure of their body’s capabilities, and the word “workout” terrifies them.

So what do they do?
They turn to social media and YouTube and try to filter all the tips and tricks…but it ultimately fails. They’re facing an uphill battle as they get older, and the younger-year tactics don’t work anymore.

What I really think it comes down to is the fact that people need to stick to the fundamentals. Michael Jordan used to say, “That kid has a $1 million move but a $1 shot.”

The fundamentals are the fundamentals.
You have to learn how to recover properly, strength train properly, and eat real foods.

There’s no way around achieving real success.

To all the women out there who are struggling to find the fitness routine that works, just stick to the fundamentals. Find a studio that, preferably within a 10-mile radius, serves your age group and trains you for the body you have.

I appreciate the National League of Your Men for reminding me that there are still good people out there who are doing great things for their families.
